What Are You Doing Today?
Updated: Aug 23, 2019
As we near the end of a year, I know many of you are preparing and planning for 2019. You are thinking about what you want to experience in the new year, where you want to go, and who you will share your journey with. I love the winding down of a year and the innocence of a new year about to begin. And yet it reminds me of the preciousness of this very moment. The moment that we aren’t attending to as we think about the future. This very moment is precious, innocent, and new. You get to choose how you will see it and what you will do with it. You can treat it like a regular day on the calendar, or you can treat it as the special day it is – today…the now moment.
Time is a fleeting thing and until we are running out of it, we forget how special it is. The 2-minute warning in football is often the most exciting. It’s the extra innings in a baseball game that seems to carry the most weight. But, every minute of the game before the end offers time for celebration and time for sorrow. Each moment is important. Each moment builds upon the moment before it and creates a lifetime of memories.
So, as we approach a new year filled with potential and possibility, I encourage you to see today from that light of potential and possibility as well. There is greatness in you and in the world today, there is no need to wait until the stroke of midnight to appreciate where we are now as we say goodbye to where we’ve been.
Moving forward, I encourage you to enjoy today by:
Finding at least three things you appreciate about today. Not about what is coming up in your life or what you are excited about next year. I am asking you to stay present for today and find joy in this moment.
Asking yourself how you want people to remember you and act accordingly. If today were the last day you saw someone, wouldn’t you want them to remember you with kindness rather than complaint?
Saying thank you as often as you can and live in a state of thanks. Thank you for waking up. Thank you for breathing with ease. Thank you for the sun shining. Thank you for …. (fill in the blank).
Mostly, while you are looking forward to a new year filled with hope, possibility, and potential, I ask that you see all those expectations in your day today and live today in LOVE.
Until next time, you are timeless.
Each day I show up to love bigger than the day before.
