I LOVE YOU….BUT
What are your thoughts on unconditional LOVE? We talk about it and often say we have it for our kids, but can unconditional love exist outside a parent/child relationship? Many years ago I absolutely believed that love had conditions. If you cheated on me, if you were dishonest, etc., then how could I still love you? Yet somehow that didn’t feel good to me either as how does love stop? I certainly wasn’t happy with the behavior and deeply hurt by it, but how do you stop loving someone while standing up for yourself? Years later I read a quote by Neale Donald Walsch that allowed me to love unconditionally while not participating. Here it is: I LOVE you but if you continue this behavior I will leave the room I LOVE you but if you continue this behavior I will leave the house I LOVE you but if you continue this behavior I will leave your life LOVE doesn’t have conditions, participation does. I can LOVE and not participate. That epiphany is part of my core now as I decide who to participate in my life on all levels. And then when I went a step further and thought about unconditionally loving ME, well now that was a true game changer…and still a work in progress. 🙂
For the next week I invite you to unconditionally LOVE you by: Being gentle with your perceived shortcomings. Whether you feel you aren’t good enough, smart enough, old enough, or any other story you tell yourself holding you back…love yourself through it. Focusing on your strengths and what you are confident at doing. Give yourself some GOOD JOBS throughout the week and place your attention on what you do well. Mostly, my wish for you is to know that YOU are 1 in 7 billion and deserve living a life filled with love of self, others, and the world. Be unconditionally loving to yourself and others and choose people to participate in your life who uplift and inspire you to be the best you imaginable. Until next time, YOU are LOVED simply because you are YOU.
I unconditionally LOVE me.
